Philip A. Corley was born April 11, 1944 in Dublin, Ireland. He studied at the National College of Art 1959 to 1964, tutored by Sean Keating, Maurice McGonical, John Kelly. At age 15, he was the youngest artist ever to exhibit at the Royal Hibernian Academy, qualifying as a teacher the following year.

Corley won a private scholarship, breaking in 1961 to 1962, and entered the Academy de la Grande Chaumiere in Paris, France, where he was tutored by Yves Brayer. He returned to Dublin to finish his studies where he continued exhibiting annually at the Royal Hibernian Academy as well as local galleries. He was a founder member of the group 65 (a collection of Dublin artists) and project g (an independent artist co-op), both still flourishing.
